Most car insurance companies view a seatbelt violation as a minor offense. Some charge for it, some don’t. Ask your agent or insurance company representative if they charge for a seat belt violation. Rarely does a police officer issue only a single seatbelt ticket; another violation usually accompanies it. This infraction applies to adults.
Child safety seats are in a different category. All companies charge for an infraction where the child was not in a proper seat or booster seat. This type of ticket carries higher insurance rates. Sometimes insurance companies apply a significant surcharge for child endangerment if you are caught with your child not correctly strapped in.
